Chrome Next Window’s Killer? Unlikely!

Monday, September 8th, 2008

Well, it seems the blogosphere is all in heat due to a recent posting on Tech Crunch. What is causing the hissy? It seems Michael Arrington believes Google’s new browser known as Chrome can eventually kill off the Window’s OS -

On the other hand - Ted Dziuba has posted a rebuttal (along with the lengthy list of comments on the article already posted below the blog) at http://teddziuba.com/2008/09/a-web-os-are-you-dense.html.

Now what is the real fact people are arguing over? With the explosion of Web 2.0, it seems a lot of cliches are being thrown around. Programming is being looked at in a different light. Everyone and their mother are jumping on the ship and putting their name into the game (remember the dot com crash anyone?).

My $0.02
Google is effectively pushing some ideas off the table and to my laptop. I believe that this browser could push the limits of what we believe a browser can do.  However - do remember that browsers are just that - something used for browsing.  An operating system itself is a whole new monster, intricately communicating via the fine line between binary bonds of language and hardware response.  Yes - that’s a very poetic way to put it.  The bottom line my friend is that Google has brought out a browser.  It’s just that.  The game is TOO young at this point to make such an assumption, especially with Windows holding such a high market share and the fact that a lot of computer users are not as computer proficient as most techie wizards believe the average user to be.  At most - Google is going to utilize their resources and attack an open-source market held by Mozilla’s Firefox, or even cut into those that do use Safari.  But attacking an operating system?  That’s a blue screen of an idea….
